Breakfast for Champions

Everybody knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The old saying goes, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a commoner and dinner like a pauper”. This was said to encourage a healthy manner of eating, and ensure we get enough fuel to begin our day while ending it with just enough to give us a good night’s sleep. Breakfast is an essential meal for all ages groups, and should never be avoided. Most breakfast food are a great source of naturally found vitamins and minerals that are hard to find in other meals.

The name breakfast literally means breaking the fast. When you wake up, your body hasn’t received food in 8-10 hours. Breakfast therefore helps in restoring glucose levels and maintaining balance. An individual who eats breakfast every morning is less likely to do or feel the following things;

  • snack unnecessarily during the day
  • binge eat during lunch
  • feel tired or irritated
  • gain weight

On the other hand, a regular breakfast eater is likely to feel the following:

  • Better levels of concentration
  • Better responses to stimuli
  • Better memory
  • Happier and satiated

Breakfast has many long term benefits like reducing the tendency to be obese, develop heart diseases and hypertension and the chances of developing type two diabetes.  It improves cognitive functions by restoring glucose levels in the morning, which is essential carbohydrate that is needed for the brain to function to its full capacity. Last but no the least preparing and eating breakfast together is a great way for families to spend time with each other. Healthy conversation, laughter and the joy of eating a meal with loved ones does wonders to one’s mental and physical well being.
